Waipū Cove, Bream Bay

A white sandy beach with a river and rocky outcrops at the south end. Enjoy superb views of offshore islands Taranga and Marotere (the Hen & Chicks) and the dramatic Whangārei Heads skyline to the north east.

Large trees provide shade and the grassy public spaces are great for picnics. The beach is patrolled by Waipū Cove Surf Life Saving Club's lifeguards over summer and there is a holiday park for campers, a convenience store (with ice-cream!) and a great cafe. Waipū Cove is a popular surf spot, check out The Cove Fish Fry blogspot for a taste of what is on offer.

Waipū Cove is the northern start point to the fantastic Waipū Coastal Walkway that ends at Langs Beach. You will need to wade across the usually shallow river (best done at low tide) to get to the walking track.

Waipū Cove is approximately 47kms south of Whangārei city.
