We all daydream about budget-free travel or imagine what we would do if our Lotto numbers came in. The isite team share how you can enjoy your winnings (real or imaginary) with a blissful luxury long weekend in Whangārei.

Day trip from Auckland

Begin your journey by driving to the charming town of Waipū. Here, you can bask in the sun at the stunning Waipū Cove and Langs Beach, known for their pristine sands and crystal-clear waters. Take your time and enjoy exploring the vintage shops and boutiques in the village.

Looking to tick off a bucket-list? Why not gallop a horse along Ruakākā beach or explore nearby glow worm caves?

Enjoy award-winning beer at McLeods Brewery, before stopping in at The Cove for a lovely long lunch. After enjoying Waipū Cove (twice voted New Zealand's Best Beach), return to Auckland via stunnings Langs Beach and Mangwhai.

1st Full Day:

Drive to Whangarei's Town Basin, a vibrant area filled with attractions. Start your day with a guided tour at the Hundertwasser Art Centre with Wairau Māori Art Gallery, a unique and colourful art space. For lunch, dine at Aqua Restaurant, known for its exquisite cuisine and waterfront views.

Spend your afternoon exploring the artisan jewellers, glass blowers and galleries in the Town Basin, including the gallery at the Hihiaua Cultural Centre. Take a leisurely walk on the scenic Hātea Loop, a picturesque trail that circles the Town Basin.

For the adventurous, enjoy a private kayaking tour in Whangārei Heads or try your hand at fishing with a chartered trip.

In the evening, enjoy an unforgettable meal at Topsail in Onerahi, then retreat to Ara Roa in Whangārei Heads.

This luxurious accommodation contains a range of boutique properties perched on cliffs with magnificent ocean views. If you prefer to enjoy dinner at home, a private chef can be arranged.

2nd Full Day:

Immerse yourself in Maori culture with a private tour from Tu Tika Tours. You will be welcomed into Rangimarie's home, learn about her rich culture, and tour significant Māori sites in Whangarei.

In the afternoon, visit Otuihau Whangārei Falls and Kiwi North to (hopefully) see kiwi, explore the Whangarei Museum, and tour the historic homestead.

For dinner, choose between The Quay or No.8, both offering exceptional dining experiences in the Town Basin.

Spend another night at Ara Roa, enjoying the serene environment and luxurious amenities.

3rd Full Day:

Head to Tūtūkākā for an unforgettable snorkelling trip with Perfect Day to the Poor Knights Islands, a renowned marine reserve. This all-day boat trip will have you returning by 4pm.

There's time to return to Auckland or stay the night in one of the epic accommodation offerings from Ula Stays in Tūtūkākā. Perhaps a cliffside hideaway? Or maybe a beachfront retreat? The choice is yours.
