120 Years of Rugby in Northland
Find out more about the legends of Northland Rugby, particularly JB Smith, Peter Jones, Ian Jones, Glen Taylor, Sheryl Waaka and the Going brothers. Compare Northland team photos from the 1920’s through to today. Video footage of Northland’s great rugby moments will bring back memories. A rich history displayed through memorabilia from the players, the Northland Rugby Union, the Whangarei Museum’s own collection and Northland schools.
Whangarei Museum & Kiwi House
Open 7 days per week, 10am-4pm. Visit the nocturnal kiwi house to see a live kiwi foraging for food as he would in the wild. See if you can spot the native gecko on display – but you’ll have to look hard as they’re masters of disguise! Take a journey through time in the Museum, with displays on Matariki, natural history, the development of the written language, and a special exhibition on 120 years of rugby in Northland.
