M Francis McCarthy: Landscapes of Memory

About this image

Whangarei Fritter Festival

Sorry, this event has been and gone.

M Francis McCarthy creates emotive landscape paintings that capture the spirit of New Zealand. His art hearkens back to previous eras while also capturing the essence of a modern aesthetic.

McCarthy favours harmonious composition over rendered details, creating images which reflect what he feels not only what he sees. His technique and compositional choices have developed to create beautiful landscapes which convey memories, passions, and visual pleasures.

Landscapes of Memory can be viewed in Whangarei Art Museum’s Community Gallery until August 20.

About this Venue

The Art Museum opened in June 1996 in an historical arts and crafts building in beautiful Cafler Park adjacent to the cultural amenities of Forum North Theatre and the conservatory and Fernery.

It is the public gallery of the city and district and custodian of the extensive city art collection. The Museum is also the venue for national touring exhibitions and internally curated exhibitions and public programmes.
