Whangarei is home to a diverse and vibrant creative community working in a range of media

There are over 350 “professional” artists in the district earning part or all of their living from sale of their work. There are also a diversity of common interest and support groups for arts and crafts. Whangarei has developed its own unique arts identity which reflects the history and cultures that make Whangarei special. CHART (Culture, Heritage, Arts Resource Trust) supports the development of the Whangarei creative sector, and incorporates Creative Northland.

The Whangarei Art Museum is the public gallery of the district and is the permanent home of the city art collection which embraces both heritage and contemporary art work.

The Artisans Fair is a specialist summer attraction, and a market for Whangarei and Northland Artisans to showcase their fine arts, crafts and skills. Works of art and craft can also be seen at The Quarry Arts Centre and The Bach, Basin Art & Carft House.

The Endless Summer Festival runs annually in February and March throughout the Whangarei district and showcases an array of creative events, from exhibitions to performance circus, concerts and theatre.
